One of the many reasons I refrained from telling about my past on this space was because I believed there had to be other people in the world who experienced the same or even worse. But it's the small nuances that can still make an interesting story to relate.

Elizabeth: I think if we truly examine all the bad memories, there will be instances of brightness and understanding in each.

Chris M: Calm your qualms. After sharing some of my painful, embarrassing stories, and hearing what others said about the book, I concluded that I was actually no different than anyone else growing up. Yes, the details were different, because we each had different parents, different friends, different personalities, different experiences. But at root, we are all just human beings, and we all go through the same kinds of trials. That's why these kinds of honest, frank stories resonate.

But we rarely tell each other about these stories, so each of us also thinks that he's the only one who's ever experienced anything like that. Ironic.

My "embarrassing theft" story involves a crayon and a kindergarten class. Maybe I'll write about it on my blog this week (if I can fit it in).

Thanks for the great post, Michell.

-TimKAnonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01317561917487132989noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9169129998329537448.post-72050402050027392352009-08-10T12:53:48.234-04:002009-08-10T12:53:48.234-04:00excellent story.excellent story.Chris Stonehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02843546323461336020noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9169129998329537448.post-31089130338326428042009-08-10T11:39:35.806-04:002009-08-10T11:39:35.806-04:00What an incredibly poignant glimpse into your past...What an incredibly poignant glimpse into your past, at what was probably a very important decision point to direct the rest of your life. I really enjoyed this story -probably because I think you're right in that we all have a closet somewhere in our mental past that holds all kinds of not so shiny memories.
I'm thinking the fact that those chicklets -once returned, then purchased -tasted wonderful because they were guilt-free. (Wish I could feel that way about fat free or low-cal items but they still never taste all that great!)Jenihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16425701332785470116noreply@blogger.com
