What is in a name?

This is a sort of hodgepodge post today. I want readers to get use to seeing blog posts on Sundays, Tuesdays and Thursdays. But I really don’t have any story for you, so I’m going to be talking about some offhand topics.

Anagrams:

So, the other day I was messing around with anagrams concerning my name. Why, you ask? Because I have a plain name with about 100 other people in cyberspace having the SAME as mine (I’m exaggerating, of course - there’s probably more like 30 people who STOLE my namesake.) Anyway, I wanted to see if I could come up with a unique moniker from rearranging the letters of my old one. You wouldn’t believe the funny phrases that I thought up instead. I put a brief description after each.

Michelle Hickman . . .

Hell, Nick. Mace him: And this is why so many people run from the cops.

Hill men hack mice: Ew! I’m not even going to touch this one.

Chilean milk, Chem: Hmm, I’ve never been to Chile. I wonder what type of animal they milk?
Check name; Him ill: Uh oh . . . did Chem drink too much?

He kill manic Chem: Holy crap! What was in that milk?

Me - hall chick - mine: Is this a schoolboy obsessed over the hall monitor? He is destined for a life filled with restraining orders.

Nickel ham - Lech, MI: I think the drive to Michigan is worth it to buy ham this cheap.

Hall mime chicken: Can you imagine walking down the hall and seeing a chicken in a tiny black jumpsuit with white face paint on as it would mime being trapped in a box? I wonder how well of a job it would do pantomiming in a pan of roasted vegetables?
*******

Okay, okay. Ha-ha. We all had a nice laugh over this. But really, I’m still trying to decide on a pen name. Here are a few I came up with.

Emil Lench Kachim - I liked the sound of it, until I looked down at my bouncing chest and realized that I don’t plan on switching gender anytime soon.

Mimi Lench Kachel - I like the first and the last. That middle one is so-so, unless I attach it with a hyphen and make it a maiden name/ married name. But . . . I’m not married.

Emma Nicki Lechl - Not bad . . . I could switch first and middle whenever I’m in one of those wacky moods. Yet there’s that last name to contend with . . . I sure could use some extra vowels. Maybe I’ll throw my real middle name into the mixture and see what I can bake up.

Helen Michelle Micka - Weird . . . I have sooo many L’s and E’s in my full name that I can rearrange letters and still get "Michelle" somewhere. But this one is definitely a no-no. I have an aunt called Helen.

Ellen Mimi Chalchkee - Uh . . .no, although I do like the sound of Ellen. Too many letters. Subtract the middle name and just stick with a first and a last.

Ellen H. Mackichim - Hm . . . maybe. Or am I just getting desperate to come up with something? Okay, let’s try three more times.

Kim Chichmanelle - Ha! Yeah, right. Too many L’s, E’s, M’s, C’s and H’s. And trying to work in that K is starting to really get on my nerves.

Alice Nimmel - Perfect! It’s what I always wanted! What? Of course I used up all the letters . . . um . . . oh, all right. I did leave out a few, which technically means it’s not an anagram. Picky. Picky.

Emil Lench Kachim - Yanno, this name could work. I do enjoy wearing boxer shorts around the house. Very comfortable on those hot summer days.

The Muses:

Sometimes in my trolling through cyberspace, I will come across someone’s post talking about channeling their inner muse: My muse is very active today. My muse is sitting in my lap. My muse is in total control of me.

Not only does this sound EXTREMELY KINKY, but I usually find these mentioned on writers’ blogs. If you’re not familiar with what a Muse is, I will give you a brief explanation.

In ancient Greek mythology, these were the nine daughters between the god Zeus (the bearer of thunder and lightning, rain, and winds) and Mnemosyne - the goddess of memory (she is actually a Titaness, but that’s a whole different topic.) These nine Muses were the protectors of song, poetry, arts and sciences. It is said they inspire all artists (especially poets), philosophers, and musicians. The Muses sat near the throne of Zeus and sang of the origin of the world and its inhabitants and the glorious deeds of the great heroes. Here are their names:

Calliope - muse of epic poetry
Clio - muse of history
Erato - muse of lyric and love poetry
Euterpe - muse of music and flutes
Melpomene - muse of tragedy
Polyhymnia - muse of sacred poetry and mime
Terpsichore - muse of choral song and dance
Thalia - muse of comedy
Urania - muse of astronomy

And who said learning can’t be fun? (Hey, who’s snoring? Don’t make me come over there and kick you!)

  1. Wow, that's some interesting stuff! Please, don't change your name. lol Muses huh? So that's what's been fueling you...is there any way you can rid of them? ;)

Oh, wanted to let you know I added the new blog roll but your blog won't take for some reason. You're listed, on top of the list along with two other of my favorite blogs that wouldn't take either. Any insight to that?

  2. I'm not sure I can get rid of the muses. Antibotics don't seem to be working. LOL!

I'm not sure why my url is acting strange. I tried to add my blog to my own list and saw what you were referring to. I posted a comment on the Blogger help group forum. When I get an answer, I'll let you know.

  4. I vote for Helen Michelle Micka, if you have to change it. But, I'm with Sandra. You have a perfectly fine and serviceable name to begin with.

  5. Thank you, Suldog!

I was just having fun with it. I guess it is my own fault. I did an, ahem, embarrassing thing and Googled my name. Bad idea for the ego. When I saw how many people in cyberspace had the same name, I guess I just wanted to see if I could switch hats. Be my own drummer. Dance to my own tune. Yada...yada...yada.

Sandra, I actually got an answer on the forum. They said it has to do with the browser cache being full and that you have to clear it out.

Strange...I've posted other problems and that always seems to be the same answer. And I always clear my cache before going online, everyday...

  6. browser cache being full and that you have to clear it out...

Same exact answer I got for a problem I had when I first started blogging! Do you think that means your cache or my cache? Hmmm, that didn't sound right. lol
