Good fill someone in on and this mail helped me alot in my college assignement. Thank you on your information.

You are getting sloppy, Anonymous comment spammer.

Yes, everyone. I'm making a post about comment spam. I usually don't go out of my way to do such a thing. Unfortunately, this particular one is starting to get really annoying. I'm not sure of the purpose of their comment, unlike the more obvious ones where they drop numerous links to certain sites (the newest ones concern shoes).

But this one...

It's an innocent comment. They are not dropping links. They are not trying to intice you with a fake profile to do a "work from home" scam. In truth, this has to be one of the most laid-back spam messages out there.

But it is spam. I've gotten it for older posts where all I did was pass out a few blog awards. How that helps someone in their assignment is beyond me? At one time I just left the comment there because it was written a hell of a lot better:

Genial post and this mail helped me alot in my college assignement. Thanks you for your information.

Of course, I'm not saying it makes a bit of sense or is spelled correctly.

... and this mail helped me alot in my college assignement. Thanks you...

Yet I kept getting the message, kept seeing the message on other sites I visit, and realized it is spam. I've gone and deleted any trace of it on my blog. And boy, did this person repeat themselves in an annoying fashion.

I know what you are about to say. "Why, Michelle! If it bugs you so much, why don't you just turn off the anonymous comment function?"

One reason: There are legitimate people out there who go incognito and don't do the whole blogger thing yet still leave worthwhile comments. I have one friend who does this. I'm sure there are a lot of other people who do the same, and I'm not going to leave them out of the conversation by taking such an action over one spammer.

Okay, I vented and perhaps gave a bit of helpful information, which my blog title said I would do on occasion despite trying to kick this habit. Have a great weekend everyone!

Update:And just when I thought spam comments couldn't be more annoying. Second place goes to the person who I had to just delete for this post:

"Hello. And goodbye."

I would say that maybe I ticked off Anonymous. However, I've seen this one on other blogs too... as regular spam.

Thanks for reminding me about this one, Anonymous, so I can do an update.

  1. Ah! I've gotten this spam so many times! I always wondered what it was supposed to be, or how it benefitted the spammer.

My older posts need comments to be approved by me. So I wondered if spammers put this on there to look innocent and see if I would approve comments, and then they'd be coming back to hit me with the Viagra comments next.

    Who knows.

  2. That's been my exact thinking! That this is an indicator left on sites to let others know they can drop spam comments later. This innocent message is usually left on my most recent posts. Then I get deluged with spam on older ones.

  3. The darned comment spam is an issue I don't think we can win, no matter what route one takes.
If you use any kind of verification that people have to fill in to get their comment to post, some folks get ticked off over having to do that and stop visiting. If you eliminate anonymous comments -well, again you run the risk of offending or limiting the comments too.
And if you leave your blog wide open, so to speak, then you get span out the yazoo sometimes. And much of that stuff often makes no sense whatsoever.
Depending on my mood, sometimes I just go in and delete the spam; sometimes I just ignore it too in hopes it will go away. Sadly, that doesn't happen.
What irks me though is how some of them get through in the first place and don't even register as much as a blip on the sitemeter.

  4. I am sure this one is headed my way too ... it is less offensive than some of those in Chinese or those that are blatantly (I like that word and now its stopped me in my commenting tracks ..) nasty... yeah blatantly nasty ..

  5. The one I keep getting says that they've clicked on the advertisements on my page and hope that I will return the favor. Ha! I don't have Adsense or any other paid programs for advertising. Busted!

I use the comment moderation feature so that I can reject any spam. I'll be watching for this one! :)

Have a great weekend (hopefully Spam free). :)

  8. Oh, Michelle. As always, you go right to the heart of the matter. Occasionally at work I deal with this note in email: "Please do the needful". The spam you've shared reminds me uncomfortably of this verbiage....

  9. Just when I can't get any more annoying spam comments, knucklehead drops by with the coup-de-grace of comments. I should delete you out of hand, whenever I stop laughing.

  10. Aw, and here I was feeling all self-important I'd helped some semi-literate sruggling student from flunking school..

But yeah, I DON'T GET IT EITHER - Why? what's the point? Weird!

  11. At least spammers' comments are easily deleted. Makes you wonder though... don't they have anything better to do?

  14. They are very annoying indeed ! Unfortunately, we have to keep comment moderation turned on. With our job it's not possible for us to check the comments for spam EVERY day. That was our only solution. Argh !!

  15. All spammers need to get another hobby and leave people alone. Don't understand the thinking of people that do this. They must be smarter than me, but I would rather work with the kids outside.
    See ya.

  16. An the above person is the perfect example of those people who can use the anonymous comment function responsibilty. And the reason why I don't turn it off for this blog.

Hello, my friend Coach O. Hope those kids have been keeping you busy!
